Introducing Optiease Chat - A ChatGPT styled Local Chrome AI

by Jun Xi Koh (Jax)

Many NDIS and healthcare teams worry about where their client data goes but, they also want the speed and help that AI can give.

We have built a free chatbot that looks and feels like ChatGPT, which you guys would be most familiar with. You can install Optiease Chatbot on your own computer like an app.

It needs about 4GB of space, and after that, every chat stays on your device. It does not send any data to any outside company, not even to us. It runs with a model built by Google engineers.

We have spoken with over 100s of NDIS and healthcare teams. We already build safe tech and AI systems for some of them. These systems have collectively cut more than 700 hours of manual work in the last year. We partner with our clients for long periods and understand their fears about AI and we know they want better speed and support in their day to day operations.

Other tools like LMStudio and Ollama focus on the tech setup first. Optiease Local Chrome AI is built for healthcare use cases. The setup is small, the steps are simple, and the model updates itself so you always get the newest Google version.

This article gives a plain overview of the tech and its benefits. If you want to set it up, use the manual here: https://optieaseai.com/chrome-ai/setup-instruction

If you already watched our video on LinkedIn or Instagram, feel free to skip the one below.

What is Chrome AI?

  • AI directly “lives in” your browser: Instead of relying on external apps or cloud services (external API call), Built‑in AI is integrated into Chrome itself. That means the browser can run certain AI models locally, right on your device.

  • Privacy & speed advantages: Because it runs locally, your data doesn’t have to be sent out to external servers for processing. This reduces latency (faster responses) and keeps sensitive information on your machine.

What are the requirements to own a Chrome AI?

Documentation is from the followed: https://developer.chrome.com/docs/ai/get-started

Google lists the hardware needs for this tool. My own laptop, a Windows 11 Dell Inspiron from 2022 with an i7 and 16 GB RAM, runs it with no trouble.

You don’t need to dig through your full computer specs. Just open Chrome, type:
chrome://on-device-internals/
in the address bar, and check the Model Status page. It will show you the basic things your computer needs. Most people with a decent laptop or desktop will pass these checks with ease.

How capable is the model?

The on device model in use right now is Gemma Nano Model version 3, and it takes about 4 GB of space once the download finishes. It is one of the strongest lightweight models available today, capable of running even on mobile phones and small edge devices, though most people will never need to do that in practice.

Google keeps this model updated over time, so you don’t need to stress about staying current. If an update is ever needed, it will only take a few clicks to complete.

Unlike LMStudio, Ollama and other local AI tools that require separate software and ongoing setup, this model runs directly inside Google Chrome and stays on your device. You avoid the usual hassle of installing and maintaining extra programs, which keeps everything simple and easy to manage.

Chrome AI provides the APIs for developers to build the custom applications that they look for; For example, text summarisation, translation, writer, or generalised multimodal prompt API that currently supports text and image inputs. It has provided a suite of extensive features for developers to build their own web applications.

How can it benefit me as a healthcare provider?

Optiease AI gets excited about new tech that makes healthcare work easier, and we know privacy sits at the top of your concerns when you put any data into an AI tool. We keep that in mind with every build.

We handle the messy parts in the background. We write the code, connect our interface to the local Chrome model, and shape the app so it fits real healthcare use. Future features could include spotting or hiding personal details, creating AI summaries of records, simple transcription, and clear translation support. For this first release, we focused on a clean ChatGPT style interface. The aim is to keep your data and documents safe on your device while you still get helpful natural language processing, Q and A, and strong summarising features.

The goal is simple. Cut busywork and lift day to day productivity with GenAI and LLM tools built for your needs. The app is free to use, and the only cost is the small amount of space it uses on your device.

Disadvantages and Tradeoffs with this model:

What is the future of Chrome AI and Optiease Chat:

It’s about democratising AI access:

  • Users get AI features without installing extra software or maintaining or configuring the model.

  • Developers can experiment with AI in lightweight ways.

  • The browser becomes not just a window to the web, but a platform with intelligence built in.
